
BIRGUNJ, Nepal – April 14, 2026 – The foundation stone for the construction of a new School and Library building at Shree Mahobani Padam Secondary School was jointly laid today in Pokhariya Municipality-6, Bara district, Madhesh Province, Nepal.
The ceremony was led by Shri Devi Sahai Meena, Consul General of the Consulate General of India in Birgunj, alongside Mr. Praduman Prasad Chauhan, Chairman of Pokhariya Municipality.
The project is being undertaken under the Government of India’s High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) scheme, with a financial assistance of NRs. 65.3 million (Nepalese Rupees). The new infrastructure will include a three-storey academic block, an administrative block, a library, computer and science labs, a canteen, kitchen, along with furniture, lab equipment, gate, guard house, toilet, boundary wall, landscaping, sanitary/water supply, and electrification works.
The project will be implemented through Pokhariya Municipality.
Local officials, including the Mayor of Pokhariya Municipality and the School Management, expressed appreciation for the developmental support provided by the Government of India.
Highlighting the strong bilateral ties, the press release noted that India and Nepal, as close neighbours and development partners, engage in wide-ranging and multi-sectoral cooperation. The implementation of HICDPs reflects the continued support of the Government of India in reinforcing the efforts of the Government of Nepal to achieve growth and development.
