By Himalini Desk, RASUWA / KATHMANDU — September 7, 2026. Rescue and search operations at the flood-ravaged 37-megawatt Upper Trishuli-3 ‘B’ Hydropower Project in Rasuwa remain heavily compromised as thick sludge, mud, and debris cover the disaster site.
According to the Nepal Army, the massive accumulation of muddy swamps and wreckage left behind by the devastating floods has made it incredibly difficult to transport heavy rescue equipment to the site. The treacherous terrain is currently the biggest hurdle in clearing the rubble and locating victims.
Army Deploys Special Task Force
To tackle the extreme conditions, the Nepal Army has mobilized a specialized 90-member rescue team to the project site. The troops are currently focusing their search and clearance operations around the project’s main office premises and residential quarters, navigating through perilous mud to find any signs of life.
Desperation Grows: 178 Unaccounted For
The human toll of the disaster continues to mount, with 178 individuals—comprising project workers and locals in the vicinity—still reported missing and out of contact.
As time runs out, the agony of the victims’ families has turned into outrage. Relatives of the missing gathered at Maitighar in Kathmandu on Monday, staging a protest to demand expedited rescue operations. The distraught families are urging the government and concerned authorities to deploy additional resources and employ alternative methods to clear the debris and locate their loved ones.
A Race Against Time and Terrain
The floods have dealt a catastrophic blow to the 37 MW critical infrastructure, but the immediate priority remains the preservation of life. While the Nepal Army and local rescue units are working tirelessly, the hostile post-flood environment continues to test the limits of their search and rescue capabilities.
