It is the most opportune time for the ghost of Sitaram Kesri visiting Sonia Gandhi: she too, like she did to Kesri, needed to be thrown out of the party and political obituary be written off her as well her offsprings
Vivekanand Jha Ranchi: In 1989 General Election, Rammohan Gandhi contested the election against the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi from Amethi. In that famous election, Rammohan, who was the grandson of Mahatma Gandhi, had campaigned on the issue that, while he was the real Gandhi, the one-implying Rajiv Gandhi -as the fake Gandhi. Unfortunately for Rammohan, Amethi in particular and the nation in general, had outright rejected his contention: Rajiv Gandhi went on winning the election. Notwithstanding his personal victory at the hustings, Congress Party lost the election to Vishwanath Pratap Singh’s craftily coined slogan: ‘Raja nahi fakir hai, desh ka takdir hai’. Incidentally, Rajiv Gandhi lost the election because of the Bofors scandal that raised the storm in the polity, significantly compromising his image as a ‘Clean man’, while lending credence to Vishwanath Pratap Singh’s claim of Rajiv Gandhi’s family involvement in the whole scandal.
However, despite losing power, Rajiv Gandhi remained highly popular because of his genesis from Gandhi-Nehru family. In fact, 20th century was not the same as that of twenty first; whereas the twentieth century represented a slavish India, awaiting the blessings of Gandhi-Nehru family for its own salvation. In contrast, twenty first century India, with its sense of progressivism taking precedence over that of feudalistic mindset, Gandhi-Nehru family is not only deemed as a spent force, but is also subjected to law of diminishing marginal utility. Far from there being any cravings for the family, it is considered as the parasite, a bane not only for the Congress Party, but also as the disgrace for the nation. Significantly, the role of the matriarch of the family, Sonia Gandhi, is increasingly being equated with that of the famous queen, Marie Antoinette of France, who, triggered the elimination of the whole family of King Lewis, for her obsession to foist her juvenile son as the next king despite the people revolting against the tyranny of the king. Her infamous observation when she was told that the people of France were even deprived of bread, ‘to eat cakes’, ignorantly being oblivious of the fact that if breads were not available, where from cakes would spring forth.
Unfortunately, the sense of privilege that India, in its feudalistic mindset though, was according to Gandhis, had been misconstrued by Sonia as her sense of royalty, being utterly naive to presume that it was Rahul Gandhi’s inherent right to succeed Dr Manmohan Singh. Brazenly though, she has irreconcilably refused to read the warning on board that anyone from Gandhis is no more welcome; it was the time for the Gandhis to pack up. Interestingly, such a warning has not only been forthcoming from the continuous electoral debacles from one after another state-the electoral decimation in Bihari, UP bi-elections and Rajasthan-but the letter written by 23 Congress members seeking full time visible leadership, should have been like pressing the panic button. Ironically, Sonia, chose to manipulate the whole situation by extending her own tenure of interim presidency of the Congress Party. Regrettably, Sonia is recalcitrant to vacate her position, as she discernfully comprehends that, with her departure from the scene, even if she hands over the reign to her incompetent son, it would be the beginning of the end of the Gandhi Nehru family in politics, for the rebellion that is already gaining traction with the members of the Congress Party, over a time is this: Gandhis are no more the milch cow but has degenerated to be the formidable liability for the party, for the electorate balk at voting for the Congress with the faces of Gandhis in the leadership position. The mother and her off springs, son Rahul and daughter Priyanka, who too, came a cropper. Also, the invocation of the names of the leaders of the family pantheon, no longer evokes any respect, far less yields any tangible votes.
Further, the continuous stay of Gandhis at the helm, is the guarantee for the BJP to hide all its transgressions, attributing the same to the past pitfalls of their own family leaders. Hence in this backdrop, it is incumbent for the trinity of Gandhis to voluntarily call it quits or else, it will continue to be a burden not only on the Congress but on the whole nation, since they are robbing the nation of a viable opposition. Hence in this backdrop, the ghost of Sitaram Kesri awaits Sonia Gandhi to avenge his own unceremonious ouster from power through back room manoeuvrings. It is the time Gandhis too are pushed out of the Congress Party, for the expulsion of Gandhis will be the new trigger for the revivalism of the Congress itself as the new force to be reckoned with. Moreover, Gandhis will never quit voluntarily, they needed to be forced out of power.
