Nepali Singer Ashra Kunwar Bags Top Honour at 13th MusicKhabar Music Awards

Kathmandu, July 3 (Prof. S. S. Dogra): Nepali singer Ashra Kunwar has won the Best Female Pop Singer award at the 13th MusicKhabar Music Awards 2082 for her widely acclaimed song Itihaas Timro Mero, marking another significant milestone in her musical career.

Ashra personally shared news of her latest achievement with Indian senior journalist- author, expressing her gratitude to her supporters and describing the honour as a motivating milestone in her musical journey.

Ashra outperformed a strong field of nominees, including Durga Kharel (Oi Nakkale), Samikshya Adhikari (Aago), Babina Kiranti (Mahango Mahango Dress), and Elina Chauhan (Chhutyo Pirim), to claim the prestigious honour.

The awards ceremony, held at Baluwatar in Kathmandu, celebrated excellence in Nepali music under the theme “Honoring the Seniors, Encouraging the Juniors.” The event was graced by Nepal’s first Vice President, Paramananda Jha, as the chief guest and featured awards across 33 categories spanning pop, film, folk and contemporary music.

Organised by MusicKhabar in association with Shubhakamana Media Solution, the ceremony brought together leading personalities from Nepal’s music and film industries. Veteran composer Shambhujeet Baskota was honoured with the MusicKhabar Lifetime Achievement Award, while several senior artistes and lyricists were recognised for their outstanding contributions to Nepali music.

Among other winners, Pravin Bedwal and Sarika Ghimire won the Best Male and Female Sugam Sangeet awards respectively. Arjun Sapkota and Laxmi Acharya emerged as the top performers in the Lok Dohori category, while Suraj Pandit and Jhuma Limbu received the Best Playback Singer honours in the film music segment.

Congratulatory messages poured in for Ashra Kunwar from admirers, fellow musicians and well-wishers following her victory. Alongside her flourishing music career, she is pursuing a Ph.D. at the University of Florida, where her research focuses on wildlife conservation. She was recently invited to deliver a TED Talk in Florida, highlighting her growing international profile in both academia and the arts.

Ashra’s latest achievement further strengthens her position as one of the most promising voices in contemporary Nepali pop music and underscores the increasing global recognition of Nepal’s vibrant musical talent.
