
Birgunj (Nepal), January 27, 2023. As part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahtosav (India@75) and to commemorate the 74th Republic Day of India, the Consulate General of India, Birgunj (Nepal) organized a Kathak Dance performance by Ms. Namrata Rai and her troupe at Hotel Clarks Resort, Birgunj on January 27, 2023.

The event began by singing of National Anthem of Nepal followed by National Anthem of India. Shri Tarun Kumar,Consul & Head of Chancery welcomed the guests along with brief introduction of the event. Sh. Nitesh Kumar, Consul General addressed the gathering highlighting the achievements of India.

On special invitation from Embassy of India, Kathmandu & Consulate General of India, Birgunj, Ms. Namrata Rai and her troupe from ICCR (Indian Council For Cultural Relations) celebrated the Republic Day of India in Birgunj (Nepal) through their performance. The concert began with Saraswati Vandana .

She presented different elements of Indian classical dance. She presented the technical aspects of kathak dancing which was very rhythmic. She also danced on some of the very well known and old sufi poetries. She continued with Drut Teental along with her accompanists, Shri Rahul Vishwakarma on Tabla, Shri Rupesh Pathak on Vocals, Shri Bhaskar Das on Bansuri and Shri Ghanshyam Sisodia on Sarangi. She presented the three stages of woman’s life through Gat Nikas. Her performance was full of liveliness, elegance, complex footwork and pirouettes which was appreciated by the audiences. Ms. Namarata Rai and her troupe had also presented Kathak Dance performance at Embassy of India, Kathmandu on January 26, 2023. She has also performed in various noteworthy and prestigious festivals around the Globe winning applauds from both, the art critics and the audiences.

Around 500 people including the Hon’ble Governor of Madhesh Pradesh Shri Harishankar Mishra as the Chief Guest, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhesh Pradesh Shri Saroj Kumar Yadav as Guest of Honor, Hon’ble Speaker of Madhesh Pradesh Sabha Shri Ram Chandra Mandal, Members of Parliament, Members of Provincial Assembly of Madhesh Pradesh, Hon’ble Mayor of Birgunj, Mayor & Dy-Mayor of Janakpurdham Sub-Metropolitan City, Former Members of Parliament, Former Members of Provincial Assembly of Madhesh Pradesh, Assistant Chief District Officer of Parsa, Superintendent of Police, Parsa, leaders of several Political Parties, Doctors, Social Workers, members of civil society, Journalists, School Principals, Teachers, Students, Officers/ Officials of the Consulate etc graced the event.
The artists were felicitated by Hon’ble Governor of Madhesh Pradesh Shri Harishankar Mishra , Hon’ble Speaker of Madhesh Pradesh Sabha Shri Ram Chandra Mandal and Sh. Nitesh Kumar, Consul General, Consulate General of India. The event was moderated by Shri Tarun Kumar, Consul & Head of Chancery, Consulate General of India, Birgunj .
