In a perplexing turn of events, the Sunsari Police have reopened a death investigation to uncover the true identity of a deceased individual, casting doubt on the initial identification made by a grieving father.
The case, which was initially handled by the Area Police Office in Mahendranagar, has now been taken over for a deeper review. “This case was previously looked into by the Mahendranagar Area Police. Now, we have initiated a re-investigation to find out the truth,” stated Sunsari Police Spokesperson, DSP Chandra Bahadur Khadka.
At the center of this mystery is the Ray family. According to locals, the family lives in extreme poverty, barely making ends meet through subsistence farming and animal husbandry. The harsh economic realities of the family have added a complex layer to the ongoing police investigation.
Authorities now suspect that the victim’s identity may have been compromised by a tragic misunderstanding—or desperation. Police theorize that because several physical descriptions and circumstances matched, the father, Narayan Ray, stepped forward to officially identify and claim the body, believing it to be his son, Padam Bahadur.
Whether this was a genuine mistake fueled by grief and coincidental similarities, or a situation complicated by the family’s dire financial struggles, remains the focal point of the renewed investigation. As the Sunsari Police dig deeper, the community waits to find out the true identity of the deceased and the actual whereabouts of Padam Bahadur.
