79th Independence Day of India Celebrated with Enthusiasm at Consulate General of India, Birgunj

Birgunj, 15 August 2025 – The Consulate General of India in Birgunj, Nepal, celebrated the 79th Independence Day of India with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit at the Chancery premises today. The event brought together members of the local community, distinguished guests, and officials of the Consulate in a vibrant display of India-Nepal friendship.

Flag Hoisting and President’s Address

The celebrations commenced with the hoisting of the Indian national flag by the Consul General, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The Consul General then read out the Independence Day eve address to the nation delivered by the Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, in which she reflected on India’s remarkable journey and achievements over the past 78 years.

Cultural Performances

Students from 13 schools and colleges of Birgunj presented captivating cultural performances on patriotic songs, adding colour and energy to the occasion. These performances, organised in collaboration with local educational institutions, received much appreciation from the audience.

Strong Participation from Local Leaders and Community

The event witnessed the presence of over 600 attendees, including the Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan City, senior political leaders, top officials from the administration and police of Bara and Parsa districts, 150 students and teachers from participating institutions, members of civil society, as well as Consulate officials, staff, and their families.

A Celebration of Friendship

Beyond commemorating India’s independence, the event served as a symbol of the deep-rooted cultural and social ties between India and Nepal. A selection of photographs from the celebrations was also shared to capture the spirit of the occasion.
