Foreign land should not become a graveyard for Nepalese citizens : Dr. Shweta Deepti

Dr. Shweta Deepti, Kathmandu. The helpless people of Nepal, who are forced to earn their living by going abroad for their livelihood. The country benefits from their remittances, but when the same person has any problem on foreign land, then the government does not take care of them. In the past, when Corona caused its tragedy at the global level, even then the inaction of the then government was seen. Not only this, when Nepalese citizens stranded abroad wanted to return home, then this opportunity was also seen here as an advantage and they were sucked in, who wanted to come to the country even after looting their blood and sweat earnings and wanted to save their lives. . Hunger killed abroad and government and non-government machinery in the country. Just a few days ago, the coffins filled with the bodies of their own citizens at the airport were heart-wrenching. The picture of that time is still imprinted on the heart and mind. We don’t want to imagine any other picture like this. We are afraid that foreign land may not become a graveyard for Nepalese citizens.

After the Taliban capture of Kabul, the situation in the whole of Afghanistan has become very bad. Other countries of the world have started a campaign to rescue their citizens trapped there. Neighboring country India is also trying to rescue its citizens trapped there. There is chaos at Kabul airport. Everyone is running to get out of Kabul.

Some scary scenes also came to the fore on the previous day, in which despite the doors of the plane being closed, people froze on the exterior of the plane and took off, after which they were seen falling from the sky. At the same time, the US Army had to fire at the Kabul airport, in which many people died. Yes, this picture is of today’s Afghanistan, which has disturbed the whole world. Our government has also woken up a bit now or it should be said that efforts are being made to wake up.

Till now the government was calm after knowing the statement being given by the Nepalese Embassy and Ambassador Acharya in Delhi, but now that there has been a demand from the ruling party itself that the government should also bring back the Nepalese people trapped in Afghanistan, then it became conscious. However, when and how it will be implemented has not been decided.

Countries like Russia, Iran, China and Pakistan are sure to join hands with the Taliban and are exploring opportunities for their expansion and development in this groaning Afghanistan. At the same time, most of the countries other than these are distracted by this change in Afghanistan, the people there and the human rights violation with them. Because the bloody history of Afghanistan is witness to this. In such a situation, what is Nepal’s foreign policy in this direction and what is it thinking, like every time no clear idea or expression is coming from the government side. But there is an urgent need to take an initiative to bring back our people, towards which the government should pay immediate attention. From the Editorial of Himalini, issue September 2021.
