Birgunj (Nepal) November 10, 2023 .To commemorate 8th Ayurveda Day on the auspicious occasion of Dhanwantari Jayanti, the
Consulate General of India, Birgunj (Nepal) organized a Panel Discussion on “Ayurveda for Public
Health” inside the Consulate premises on 10 November 2023.
2. A good number of people including Vice Chancellor of Madhesh University, President of
Federation of Nepali Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Madhesh Pradesh, President of Birgunj
Chamber of Commerce & Industries, Shri Subodh Kumar Gupta, Former President of Birgunj Chamber
of Commerce & Industries, Shri Ashok Baid (President, Nepal Bharat Sahayog Manch), President of
Green City Community Service Center, Birgunj, Chief Liaison Officer of Liaison Office, Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, Birgunj, Members of Civil Society, Prominent Pediatrician, Principal and Vice Principal
of School, senior journalists, officers and officials of Consulate General of India, Birgunj (Nepal) were
present during the occasion. The panel consisted of Dr. Suchit Kumar Sharma, Birgunj, Dr. Shiv Narayan
Pd. Gupta (Chief Officer, Provincial Ayurveda and Alternative Medicine Hospital, Birgunj), Shri Yubaraj
Subedi (Head, Patanjali Nepal) & Shri Murli Manohar Tiwari (Birgunj Bureau Chief, Himalini Hindi
Magazine).
3. The panelists explained about the importance of Ayurveda in maintaining good health. They
also highlighted on how Ayurveda is considered by many scholars to be the oldest healing science.
Ayurveda places great emphasis on prevention and encourages the maintenance of health through
close attention to balance one’s life, right thinking, right diet, and healthy lifestyle and the use of
herbs. Knowledge of Ayurveda enables one to understand how to create this balance of body, mind
and consciousness and how to manage lifestyle related health issues.
4. In his opening remarks, Shri D. S. Meena, Consul General mentioned about the origin of
Ayurveda in India and its importance in maintaining general health, prevention and management of
chronic diseases.
