Bhavya jha, Kathmandu, 5 may, 2020. 1st December 2019, when COVID-19 outbroke in Asian country China . Some people believe it to be a pandemic and some believe it to be pandemic and some believe it to be a biological weapon. The so called “developed” countries are also not able to stop this pandemic. The well-known scientists are also legging behind to discover an antidote against a tiny virus.I know it’s easy to say but difficult than moon and back to find it.
Well, whole world is suffering due to this tiny virus. We being the most superior creation of the nature, are not being able to do anything against a minute brute. Its kind of mortification for us. Our large industries are deprived of manufacturing and production. We are losing millions and billions every minute. In this very situation we can imagine the psychological state of students and learners who are deprived of learning which is their right. Frankly speaking,I am not talking about those who thank god for this lockdown and pray every day for its continuity but, I am trying to bring down your focus upon those students who really understand the value of education and want it so bad. Infact, I really feel very sorry for those students who still think that corona has done a great job for them. I being a scholar go through all the jokes and memes brought up after lockdown because they find it funny L …..And I feel really bad because of their mentality. You know what, the United Nations recently uploaded that 186 countries closed schools and universities to limit the spread of corona virus.I mean that’s huge , we can’t even imagine the loss beard by the future generation of the whole world. It has hampered 98.5% of total students’ population. And it is irreparable. We all know that once the time is gone it never comes back. Same goes for the current situation for education. In poorer countries, education finance depends much more heavily on households than it does in wealthier countries. So, as a result the poorer is a country, the more it suffers. Poor families make extraordinary efforts to support their children in school. If a corona virus induced recession leads to loss of jobs and income, consideration must be given to protecting poor families shielding them from the potentially tragic dilemma of choosing between school or work, health care and even food for children.
After all these have taken place, the government has taken an ultimate decision of online classes. In a country like Nepal, where web surfing is so difficult, where access of internet is not as easy as imagined by the government; teaching and learning is like to be out depth. Learning through internet classes is not a thing that holds water in a country like Nepal. I know that most of the educational sectors have begun this activity but everyone knows that it’s not the permanent solution. Census says that 63% of total population of Nepal has access to the internet. But is it sufficient? What will those students do who are already lacking behind due to their economic condition and have to give pause to their studies due to lack of access to internet? We all know that most of the Nepalese parents are financially low, they don’t have the device for the purpose. Most of them don’t even have idea to operate it. In such state, what will be they doing? It’s not in our hand either. Not only of Nepal but it is one of the common problems all over. Not only the students but also the teachers and guardians of students are getting complications ahead due to baseless beginning of online classes.
I am not saying that it’s a bad thing because something is always better than nothing. But it really seems a long game and this solution is temporary so in order to cope up with it and stabilize the teaching process something accomendable must be done. A necessary step in the field of education must be taken by the higher bodies so that the current situation doesn’t eat up the future or mess up everything around.
