When Modi and RSS are in Tango

Never in the history of RSS, an individual has soared high above the organisation, subsuming the behemoth of the organization to his bosom. No wonder the gargantuan rise of Modi phenomenon, has dwarfed even the largest voluntary organisation of the world, RSS which, on contrary to all its past ideals and conviction, has unabashedly capitulated before the might of an individual.
Vivekanand Jha Ranchi: Modi’s imprint is visible everywhere in RSS. The latest elevation of Dattatreya Hosabale as the General Secretary of RSS, technically designated as Karyavaha, only next to Mohan Bhagwat, the Sarsanghchalak, is the spectacular rise of Modi phenomenon across board. Interestingly, in contrast to all lofty ideals and speculations, that RSS being an idealist organisation, has seldom prized an individual over that of organisation, ground reality speaks otherwise.
This higher pedestal that Sangh has been trumpeting all this while, stands severely punctured at the altar of organisation’s abysmal submission to an individual’s diktat. Apparently, certain important developments that have transpired in the recent days which inevitablly controverts hitherto lofty claims of Sangh of being above individuals and consequently no matter whatever the situation, Sangh has never allowed the individuals to tower over its ideals. The recent events leading to promotion of Dattareya Hodabale as the Karyavaha, General Secretary of RSS, at the behest of Narendra Modi, superseding other Sah-Karyavahas, Joint General Secretaries, vindicates the fact that how Modi phenomenon has begun dictating RSS as to what it should do and it should not. Significantly, Hosabale’s elevation as the General Secretary will smoothen Modi’s dealings with Sangh, as Hosabale will be representing Sangh in dealings with the BJP at the highest stage, especially with the Prime Minister.
Another important development which shows the imprint of Modi-Shah in BJP: Ram Madhav, the General Secretary of BJP-the RSS man lent to BJP-fell out of favour with Modi-Shah, and consequently returned to RSS. Ram Madhav, who did not find scope in the Executive Committee of BJP, is shortly awaiting his elevation in RSS. Regrettably, Ram Madhav, who was flying high with the policy formulation, especially as the prime mover and shaker of Jammu and Kashmir, one fine morning finds himself out of the policy framework. In fact, it is not the first time that Sangh has comprehensively capitulated before a towering individual, it had, in fact, had also compromised in the past decades: If  Vinay Sitapati”s Jugalbandi is to be believed, RSS too had compromised with Atal Bihari Vajpayee in the past, even though he found himself removed from the inner core group of RSS. It so happened that, Guru Golwalkar, who came all the way from Nagpur to hold a private meeting with Ataljee, in order to persuade him to marry Rajkumari, a life long friend of Ataljee, which Ataljee outright refused.
This, even though, had displeased Guru Golwalkar, nevertheless RSS was forced to seek Ataljee’s support, despite his falling out with the Sangh leadership. Lal Krishna Advani remained in the inner core group. Decades later, RSS, in far intense manner, has completely surrendered itself before another individual: The most powerful Prime Minister after decades. In fact, sheer expediency has guided RSS to subordinate itself before the mighty Prime Minister whose domination in BJP was already complete; now, even Sangh has surrendered before him, unequivocally vindicates the growing influence of the man across board. In this abject surrender, it is the relationship of quid pro quo between Modi, the most powerful man of Sangh since its inception, and his alma mater, RSS which too, in the rise of Modi, finds its own edification. Significantly, in the elevation of Hosabale, BJP and RSS too look for their respective advance in the Southern states since Hosabale hails from Karnataka. Hence in this backdrop, along with the RSS’ complete surrender before Modi, it has also lost its lofty claims of its ideals and conviction reigning over that of individuals.
