
Kathmandu, July 11, 2025 — In a significant step to boost youth sports development and people-to-people ties between India and Nepal, the Embassy of India, Kathmandu has facilitated a one-month professional cricket training for three promising Under-19 Nepali cricketers in Bhopal, India.
Under the Ambassador’s Cricket Fellowship for Nepali Youth, launched by the Embassy in June 2025, Mr. Naren Bhatta, Mr. Sahil Patel, and Ms. Puja Mahato will undergo intensive training at the LB Shastri Cricket Shaala in Bhopal from 15 July to 14 August 2025.
This initiative aims to provide professional exposure to young Nepali cricketers and help hone their skills, while also deepening the shared cultural and sporting bond between the two neighbouring nations.
Ahead of their departure, Ambassador of India to Nepal, Mr. Naveen Srivastava, met with the selected players in Kathmandu today, alongside President of the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN), Mr. Chatur Bahadur Chand. During the interaction, the Ambassador conveyed his best wishes to the players and emphasized the importance of sports diplomacy in furthering India-Nepal friendship.
The training programme is expected to play a meaningful role in nurturing Nepal’s cricketing talent and expanding bilateral cooperation in sports.
