Disastrous Flood Destroys Nepal-China Border Area at Rasuwagadhi

Kathmandu, July 9, 2025.A massive flood from the Tibetan region struck the Nepal-China border area early Tuesday morning, causing widespread devastation in the Timure customs zone of Rasuwa district.

The flood, triggered by heavy upstream rainfall, completely damaged the customs facilities in Gosaikunda Rural Municipality–2. The Miteri Bridge, which symbolized friendship and directly connected Nepal and China, has been washed away.

In addition to the bridge, 24 container trucks, 6 heavy vehicles, and 35 electric vehicles were swept away by the forceful current. The road from Syafrubesi to Timure has been entirely blocked, severing vital access to the northern border point.

Significant damage was also reported at the Rasuwagadhi Hydropower Dam and the customs yard of the Rasuwa customs office.

According to Nepal Police, at least 9 bodies have been recovered so far. Nineteen individuals are still missing, including two police personnel, six Chinese nationals, and eleven civilians.

Rescue and relief efforts are currently underway amid challenging conditions caused by continuous rainfall and debris.
