Birganj, 23 April .As part of celebrations of Azadi ka Amrit Mahtosav (India @ 75), the Consulate
General of India in Birgunj organized a day-long Athletics Meet on April 23, 2022 at Narayani
Stadium in Birgunj. Around one hundred Athletes from Consulate General of India in
Birgunj, Nepal Police, Birgunj Municipal Corporation, Telecom Department, Electricity
Department, Gyanda Academy, DPS and DAV R.B. Kedia School and Civil Society of Birgunj
participated in the Meet. Seven track events (100 metres ,200 metres ,400 metres, 800 metres
,1600 metres , 4×100 metres relay, and 4×400 metres relay) and four field events (Long Jump,
High Jump, Discus Throw and Shot put) were organized during the meet.
2. The Athletics Meet was flagged off by Consul General Nitesh Kumar at 0600 hrs in the
morning. The events were held in cordial atmosphere and the participants showcased full
enthusiasm. Each event had three prizes: Gold, Silver and Bronze. Altogether, 53 prizes
including 51 for individual event, 1 Shield for Best Athlete and 1 Trophy for Best team were
presented to the winners by Consul General Nitesh Kumar. Birgunj Municipal Corporation
team was adjudged the best team and Ms. Sangita Yadav of same team was declared the Best
Player of the Meet. Armed Police Force was the close second in terms of performance
followed by DAV R.B. Kedia School and the Consulate General of India.

3. This was the first athletics meet organized by the Consulate General of India in Birgunj
since its inception nearly two decades ago. The purpose of the event was to underline the
importance of health and fitness and promote people to people relations and to nurture
harmony, coordination and cooperation among the different government departments and
civil societies of Birgunj with the Consulate. The event was highly successful as both
amateurs and professionals competed and pushed their limits. The Consulate General of
India is committed to hold numerous participative events in the future as well.
