
Birgunj (Nepal), 13 June 2026.The Consulate General of India, Birgunj (Nepal), in association with Sakhuwa Prasauni Rural Municipality, Parsa organised a Yoga event at Shreepur Bazar, Auraha Panchgawa, Sakhua Prasauni-2, on 13 June 2026. The event was held as a precursor to the global celebrations of the 12th International Day of Yoga.
Around 350 participants from the Sakhuwa Prasauni Rural Municipality participated in the event. Shri Shankar Prasad Chaudhary, Hon’ble Minister for Forests and Environment, Madhesh Pradesh, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Shri Jaswant Yadav, Mayor, Sakhuwa Prasauni Rural Municipality was the distinguished Guest.
Chief Guest, Shri Shankar Prasad Chaudhary emphasized the relevance of Yoga in daily life and urged participants to adopt it as a regular practice for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. Shri Jaswant Yadav expressed gratitude to the Consulate for organizing the event in Sakhuwa Prasauni and requested for continued collaboration for similar programmes in the future for the benefit of the local community.
Consul General, Shri D. S. Meena highlighted Yoga as India’s ancient gift to the world and underlined its role in promoting holistic health, harmony, and inner peace. He noted that Yoga serves as a powerful cultural bridge deepening India-Nepal ties.
The event was also attended by Shri Shrikant Yadav, Mayor of Jagarnathpur Rural Municipality (Parsa) and senior government officials including SP, Armed Police Force, Parsa and SP-National Investigation Department, Parsa along with other officials from the district administration. Members of Patanjali Yog Samiti and people from different walks of life, including students, teachers, social workers, and local residents, participated enthusiastically.
The session saw active participation from the local residents and concluded with a collective resolve to integrate Yoga into daily routines.
The event was the first in a series of events being organised by the Consulate General of India in Birgunj to mark the 12th International Yoga Day.
