Indian Opposition demands full day discussion in the Assembly on revocation of Article – 370

New Delhi, 21st August.              Addressing a press conference on the eve of the Delhi Legislative Assembly Session starting tomorrow, Leader of Opposition, Shri Vijender Gupta today informed that the Opposition has demanded full-day discussion on revocation of Article – 370 of the Constitution, withdrawal of special status to Jammu and Kashmir, merger of Pak- occupied Kashmir (POK) in India and shift in India’s nuclear policy under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Narender Modi and guidance of the Home Minister, Amit Shah.   He said that Opposition wants that Delhi Legislative Assembly should unanimously pass a resolution expressing solidarity with the Government of India’s Kashmir Policy.  It would also urge Delhi Government to come to full circle of nationalism by according approval to filing charge sheet against Kanhaiya Kumar and his associates in the Delhi High Court now pending for long.  MLA Shri Jagdish Pradhan and Media Department Head Shri Ashok Goel Devraha were also present in the press conference.

Shri Vijender Gupta said that this message should go not only to the entire nation but also the international community that Delhi’s citizens are standing together as one for national unity and integrity.  He demanded that tomorrow full day should be exclusively devoted to the discussion on Government policy on Kashmir.  No other issue should be taken up for discussion.  The members of both ruling and opposition parties should express their solidarity and support with the Modi Government.

Leader of Opposition said that BJP MLAs have written a letter on the above lines to the Speaker, Sh. Ram Niwas Goel requesting him to accede to the request of the Opposition.  Though no reply has been received from the Speaker, it is hoped that he would accord approval to the request in national interest.  However, if the request is not granted, the Opposition will strongly take up the issue in the Assembly.

Shri Vijender Gupta said that on the one hand the AAP Government is appreciating the removal of Article – 370 thereby speaking for national unity and integration; on the other hand, it has been consistently supporting the “tukre-tukre” gang.  It is regrettable that the Government has not accorded approval to the filing of chargesheet in the Court against Kanhaiya Kumar and his associates.    It reflects the hypocrisy of Kejriwal Government.  The Opposition will expose it in the Assembly and will demand approval to filing of chargesheet pending for long now.

With meager 7- 8 percent period left of its tenure, the AAP Government has failed to fulfill most of its promises.  Leader of Opposition reminded Kejriwal Government that as per AAP’s 2015 manifesto, it has yet to build 500 new schools, add 30000 additional beds, open 900 primary health centers, 20 new degree colleges and build 2 lakh public toilets, cleansing of Yamuna etc.  The Opposition will demand the Government to expedite the fulfillment of promises with speed and earnestness.

Shri Vijender Gupta said that the Opposition will leave no stone unturned in raising public interest issue in the House.  He informed that the Opposition has filed notices on 51 subjects under Rule – 33 so that the truth on burning problems facing public could be brought in public domain.  The issues to be raised include non-implementation of Ayushman Bharat, PM Awas Yojna, PM Matratava Yojna, stumbling blocks in Delhi-Meerut and Delhi – Alwar RRTS, inability to achieve targets in education and health sectors etc.

Opposition Leader informed that 10 notices under Rule – 55 have been sent for urgent public interest matter.  These include corruption in construction of 8089 classrooms, lack of development in unauthorized colonies, in ability to control tanker mafia, failure to clean Yamuna, inability to provide financial support to three municipal corporations etc.
