Hetauda, Nepal – November 20, 2025: In a significant move to strengthen disaster resilience and bilateral ties, India today handed over a 70-meter modular bridge along with specialized launching tools to the Government of Nepal. The ceremony, held in Hetauda, underscores India’s continued support for Nepal’s infrastructure restoration following recent devastating weather events.
The Ambassador of India to Nepal formally presented the bridge set to Nepal’s Hon’ble Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport. This delivery marks the beginning of a larger commitment, as the Indian government has pledged a total of ten such bridges—with spans of 70 meters and higher—to assist regions in eastern Nepal ravaged by heavy rains in October 2025.
Valued at over NPR 73 crores, all ten Bailey bridges are being provided to Nepal on a grant basis.
The specific bridge handed over today is slated for immediate deployment in Ramechhap district, where vital road connections were severely disrupted by the recent extreme weather.
This initiative builds on India’s ongoing assistance to its neighbour. In the wake of the September 2024 floods and landslides, India supplied ten prefabricated steel bridges worth NPR 41 crore, four of which have already been installed.
Speaking at the event, the Indian Ambassador described the supply of bridges and launching equipment as “a powerful testament to the enduring bonds of friendship that define the India-Nepal relationship.” He reiterated India’s policy of providing all possible support for Nepal’s infrastructure development and post-disaster reconstruction.
The Nepali Minister of Physical Infrastructure and Transport expressed profound gratitude for India’s “sustained and substantial assistance.” He highlighted the critical importance of the bridges’ quick-assembly design and the provision of launching tools for accelerating emergency reconstruction efforts. The Minister assured that the newly received bridge would be made operational without delay.
The Government of India has reaffirmed its commitment to continuing its support for the people and Government of Nepal in their reconstruction and disaster mitigation endeavours.
