It just does not make a difference to my psyche or confidence as I personally believe that being a woman or man is an accident of birth.
I neither feel inadequate nor inferior and at the same time do not wish to gloat over the special prowess that women are supposed to have.
I can say, I am indifferent to the idea of superiority of any particular gender over the other as for me and many other like minded women, both men and women are the best creations of God and enjoy equal status and rights.
Having said that, I do know that being a woman gives me additional responsibilities and worries as it is in our genes to be more concerned about personal safety and maternal care, read parental care.
Now if something is a biological fact, why fight it or be worried about it, accept it and enjoy the role the creator has bestowed on all women.
I am not for women running away from responsibilities but sharing a major chunk is important, especially when your baby is small or your partner has a more demanding schedule.
At the same time, I would say that if men misbehave, then their parents have not raised them well, allowing them special freedoms, a sense of undue entitlement and unworthy concessions.
They should be made to feel responsible and respectful.
Fathers have to be a living example for their sons to see their dad showcasing genuine respect for women. Likewise mothers should be a model of decorum and command respect in the family.
As a school Head, I try to teach gratefulness to students and also try to make the community show greater respect to both the genders.
All days are for all genders but if we use one day to talk about equality of opportunities and respect for all, Women’s Day is indeed welcome!
