Kathmandu, 5 September. Indian and Nepali rescue teams are working on a war footing to clear heavy debris, water, and mud from the Chilime tunnel following recent disruptions. Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Naveen Srivastava, shared the latest updates via X (formerly Twitter), highlighting the relentless and coordinated efforts of both nations in this highly complex rescue operation.<\/span><\/div>\n
According to Ambassador Srivastava, the conditions inside the tunnel remain extremely challenging. The accumulation of mud, water, and debris in the interior sections has reached dangerously close to the roof. Rescue personnel are continuously working to clear these blockages to pave the way for heavy machinery to be moved safely deep into the tunnel.<\/div>\n
Geographical Challenges and Rescue Strategy<\/b><\/div>\n
The region’s difficult terrain and the exceedingly narrow valley make the deployment of heavy-lift helicopters impossible. To overcome these logistical hurdles, the rescue teams have adopted a dual-pronged strategy:<\/div>\n
