Kathmandu, Special Report 22 September. <\/span>Dr.Sangeeta Kaushal Mishra, a seasoned bureaucrat and former Additional Secretary, was on the verge of taking the oath as Nepal\u2019s new Health Minister. Prime Minister Sushila Karki had recommended her name. But in a dramatic last-minute twist, Mishra was stopped from assuming office.<\/span><\/p>\n

The official reason cited: pending complaints at Nepal\u2019s anti-corruption watchdog.
\nThe unanswered question: Was this a matter of justice\u2014or a political conspiracy?<\/p>\n

Allegations vs. Reality<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

During her tenure as Director General of the Health Services Department, Dr. Mishra faced accusations of irregularities in procurement.<\/p>\n

The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) had already looked into the matter.<\/p>\n

The result? The case was shelved, and Mishra was effectively given a clean chit.<\/p>\n

Opponents also raised the issue of Dr. Mishra\u2019s naturalized Nepali citizenship.
\nBut Nepal\u2019s Constitution clearly allows naturalized citizens to become ministers.
\nIn fact, Rajendra Mahato\u2014also a naturalized citizen\u2014previously served as Deputy Prime Minister.<\/p>\n

Here again, Mishra seems to have been unfairly singled out.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Gen-Z Movement Factor<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Nepal is currently witnessing the rise of the Gen-Z Movement, which demands investigation into the assets of all leaders and officials since 1990.
\nAnalysts suggest that fear of such scrutiny might have made Dr. Mishra a convenient scapegoat.
\nTargeting her sends a message\u2014while protecting others with stronger political backing.<\/p>\n

The Bigger Picture<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

There is no proven case against Dr. Sangeeta Mishra.<\/strong>
\nYet she was denied the ministry, while others facing similar complaints were promoted.<\/p>\n

For international observers, this controversy is more than a personal setback\u2014it reflects Nepal\u2019s ongoing struggle between reform and old political maneuvering.<\/p>\n
