On the contrary,\u00a0Dharma<\/em>\u00a0is one which elevates us to a higher plane. The word\u00a0\u2018Dharma\u2019<\/em>\u00a0is used with different meanings in different Holy texts. In order to understand the scope of the word, some of its important origins, definitions and meanings are given here. Till we attain the state of\u00a0Turyavastha<\/span><\/em>, we will not understand the true meaning of\u00a0Dharma<\/em>.\u00a0Turyavastha<\/span><\/em> is the fourth state beyond the three states of wakefulness, deep sleep and dream, that is, the state of meditation.B<\/strong><\/p>\n

    • When an individual performs\u00a0Dharmacharan<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>(Abiding by\u00a0Dharma<\/em>) during the course of his life, he evolves spiritually. He attains positive momentum even in life after death, meaning, he attains a place in superior regions such as\u00a0Maharlok<\/span>,\u00a0Janalok<\/span>\u00a0and\u00a0Tapolok<\/span><\/em>.\u00a0Dharma<\/em>\u00a0is a unique means of liberating man from the ignorance (illusion of\u00a0Raja<\/span>\u00a0\u2013\u00a0Tama<\/span><\/em>\u00a0components) in which he is trapped with the help of the same ignorance (Sattva<\/span><\/em>component in this case).<\/li>\n
    • In the\u00a0Brahmangranth<\/em>\u00a0(A Holy text), the meaning of the word \u2018Dharma<\/em>\u2019 is\u00a0Ashramdharma<\/span>\u00a0<\/em>as is understood from the quote \u2018\u0924\u094d\u0930\u092f\u094b \u0927\u0930\u094d\u092e\u0938\u094d\u0915\u0928\u094d\u0927\u093e\u0903 \u2026\u2019 from the\u00a0Upanishads<\/em>. Therefore, \u2018Sanatan<\/span>\u00a0(Sana + Atanoti<\/em>)\u2019 means that which makes you attain the eternal.<\/p>\n

          Meaning :<\/strong><\/p>\n

          \u2018\u0938\u0928\u093e\u0924\u0928\u094b \u0928\u093f\u0924\u094d\u092f\u0928\u0942\u0924\u0928\u0903 \u0964 \u2019 means that which is eternal, has no beginning and yet is always new, meaning, it never ages, is called\u00a0Sanatan<\/span><\/em>. Only that which repeatedly manifests in a new form will last, for example, one should expect a tree to die when no new shoots spring from it. In the\u00a0Bhavarthadipika<\/span>\u00a0(Dnyaneshwari 1.71), Saint\u00a0Dnyaneshwar<\/span>\u00a0has said that each time one contemplates (on the\u00a0Shrimadbhagwadgita<\/span>), the Principle of the Holy Shrimadbhagwadgita appears to be new. (In other words, each time, one understands a different meaning.)\u00a0\u2018Sa\u2019<\/em>\u00a0in the word \u2018Sanatan\u2019 is the seed of the Sun Principle which symbolises the Absolute Fire Principle.<\/p>\n

          \u2018San<\/em>\u2019 (\u0938\u0928\u094d) from the word \u2018Sanatan\u2019 means the present and\u00a0\u2018atan\u2019\u00a0<\/em>(\u0905\u0924\u0928) means that which has no body, meaning that which is beyond the realm of time. This itself is termed as \u2018Brahman<\/span>\u2019.<\/em><\/p>\n

          B.\u00a0Vedadharma<\/em>\u00a0or\u00a0Vedic Dharma<\/em><\/strong><\/h3>\n

          \u2018Vid\u2019<\/em>\u00a0in\u00a0Sanskrut<\/span>\u00a0means to understand. The word\u00a0\u2018Ved\u2019<\/em>\u00a0is derived from the verb\u00a0\u2018vid\u2019<\/em>.\u00a0Ved\u00a0<\/em>means knowledge, the subject matter of knowledge or the means to acquire it. Knowledge, in this context, refers to the knowledge of the soul, the realisation of God or spiritual experiences.<\/p>\n

          A<\/strong>. Sweetness is the quality of sugar. That which possesses the quality of sweetness is the\u00a0Dharma<\/em>\u00a0and its\u00a0Dharmi<\/em>\u00a0are inseparable. They are merged into one another. The relationship between God and\u00a0Dharma<\/em>\u00a0is akin to that between sugar and its sweetness, which are inseparable. God is the\u00a0Dharmi<\/em>. His quality is\u00a0Dharma<\/em>. A quote says \u2018\u0927\u0930\u094d\u092e\u094b \u0928\u093e\u0930\u093e\u092f\u0923 \u0938\u094d\u092e\u0943\u0924\u0903 \u0964\u2019, meaning\u00a0Dharma<\/em>\u00a0is Narayan (God).\u00a0Dharma<\/em>\u00a0of God cannot have different identities; hence, there is only one\u00a0Dharma\u00a0<\/em>and that is the\u00a0Sanatan Dharma<\/span>. For this reason, history of\u00a0Dharma<\/em>\u00a0is effectively the history of the search for God.<\/p>\n

          Meaning :<\/strong>\u00a0Unrighteousness is the root cause of all diseases. There are three categories of diseases, namely Adhibhoutik, Adhidaivik\u00a0<\/em>andAdhytmik<\/em>. Adhibhoutik<\/em>\u00a0diseases arise from physical causes such as earthquake, famine etc. Adhidaivik<\/em>diseases occur due to malefic planets, curses of Saints and Sages and wrath of Deities etc.<\/p>\n
