V, purportedly appeared to be on the verge of negotiating a cataclysmic civil riots which, if not contained forthwith, runs the severe risk of its eventual disintegration. From Islamabad to Peshawar and from Faizabad to Lahore, Pakistan has been burning with the conflagration engendered by the patently illegitimate and unconscionably scorching arrest of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan, the most popular cricketer ever of Pakistan. Regrettably, the macabre sight of the Pakistani rangers disdainfully pushing and manhandling the former prime minister –it is reported that he was also assaulted inside the court room by the rangers –had a spine chilling impacts on me, as it would have impacted every thinking global citizen: how could a former Prime Minister be subject to such contemptuous treatment by his own fellow compatriots, only beggars the belief that Pakistan continues to remain in the pre- historic days where the light of modernity has stubbornly refused to infiltrate, far less penetrate, the collective psyche of the nation. It continues to remain the same when Zulfikar Ali Bhutto was arrested soon after his landing from the foreign soil; Nawaz Sharif enchained after being deposed; Benazir too reportedly assassinated by Pakistani Army under the instruction of Parvez Musharraf, the then Army chief; and now, Imran Khan being pushed and manhandled publicly while being escorted to jail. Significantly, the messages emanating from all these incidents boils down to this: Pakistani Army is the god for the nation and, therefore, everyone, however powerful, must fall in line or else, they face the consequences as Imran Khan, the latest victim of its vengeance did.

Imran Khan, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, arrested by the Pakistani rangers.

In my sophomoric days when I begun dissecting the nation called Pakistan, the aphorism of three A’s, the quintessential part of Pakistan’s raison d’etre and summum bonum became obvious to me: Allah, America and Army. Unequivocally, nothing moves in Pakistan without the nod from that of Army. All establishments– Civil or military–had to abide by the wish of Army if they intended to rule over Pakistan. No wonder, even the slightest of deviation from the political trajectory, as sanctioned by Army, was fraught with dangerous consequences: The immediate deposition, along with the legally conducted farce trials and, ultimately, execution, as was the case with Zulfikar Ali Bhutto. Evidently, the democratically elected governments, even though had the public mandate to govern, had to kowtow to Army, for no government could dare lock horns with the almighty Army which held the writ to dictate the democratically elected governments to function the way they intended. Especially the foreign policy was the repository of the wisdom of Army and Pakistan’s intelligence, ISI. Thus no civilian governments could ever contemplate improving Pakistan’s relations with India. And even if they did, they were sabotaged: Nawaz Sharif’s endeavour to improve bilateral relations with India, was sabotaged by the Army through infiltration in Kargil.

With the benefits of hindsight, Pakistan remained the prisoner of the foundation of their very Islamic nation which was brought about by deceit and treachery. Mohammed Jinnah, the father of Islamic Pakistan, had sought to create a separate nation for Muslims, based on his conviction that, Hindus and Muslims are two different nations and, therefore cannot live together. With the passage of decades down the line, Islamic Pakistan stands tottering on the precipice of its impending doom–economic bankruptcy, now complemented by the latest crises of Imran Khan, appears to unhinge Pakistan. In fact, Pakistan is burning today, and the threat of its nuclear weapon falling in the hands of terrorists looms large on the horizon. Moreover, the daunting challenge from PTI( Pakistan Tehreek -e- Insaf) to Pakistani Army, where the former had already gutted the Army headquarter, apart from attacking the Army officers, setting the police vehicles, ambulances and roads on fire, is unprecedented in the history of Pakistan. Unequivocally, the government of Shahbaz Sherif and Army chief Asim Munir, had failed to envisage that the situation would come to this pass when the entire Pakistan would lapse into anarchy; a civil riot like scenario raging to destroy Pakistan.

Significantly, where none dared to think, Imran Khan had reached: a direct confrontation with Army. His clandestine support for USA, which purportedly had offended China, is being touted as the chief reason for his arrest. Especially Munir’s visit to China, and the visit of Foreign Minister of China, Quin Gang to Pakistan, has been construed to be the underlying cause for the arrest of Imran Khan, especially in the context of his strong objection that CPEC has been stagnating, and the steps must be taken for accelerating its pace. Be that as it may, the stand off between the supporters of Imran and Pakistani Army has become a grim reality in Pakistan, which the latter is confronting for the first time in the last seventy five years. However, the fear of civil war, evokes the biggest anxiety of the global community, especially India, that the nuclear arsenal has its own risk of falling in the hands of terrorists groups operating in Pakistan. Moreover, the fighter Imran Khan, who has been the national hero, even before he joined politics–he brought the World Cup to Pakistan in 1992–is confronting the biggest monster: Pakistani Army headlong. The crises is severe, as it comes when Pakistan is already on the verge of economic bankruptcy. Worse still, with POK seeking its merger with India, since long time, may find it an opportune time to be a part of the Union of India. Amit Shah’s prophesy in Parliament, in the wake of the abrogation of Article 370 that POK will be a part of India, suddenly in the wake of severe crises gripping Pakistan, appears to be a stark reality today, especially when POK has been longing to be a part of India, rather than staying with Pakistan. Now, the question which knocks the global community today is, will Pakistan survive this stability crises or disintegrate? Whatever! The truth remains: The very pillar of the foundation of Islamic Pakistan is based on deceit and treachery. Hence, it will hardly be a surprise that its foundation collapses and the Islamic Pakistan disintegrates. It is also the lesson for the re-awakening of Islamists who are seeking to convert India or other non- Islamic countries into Islamic republic: The fundamentals of Islamic nations such as Pakistan is flawed; it is only so long as Hindus are in majority, the democracy and Swaraj can survive; the moment Hindus are reduced to a minority, the chaos and anarchy takes over. The ongoing scenario in Pakistan is the living testimony for the same: Pakistan could never evolve itself as a stable democracy.

Vivekanand Jha, author of Delhi Beckons: RaGa for NaMo, 56 Inches and The Making of Narendra Modi, Unmaking of Jawaharlal.

Vivekanand Jha, Author, Academician and a Public Intellectual.
