November 26, 2021,Birgunj \u0964\u00a0As part of the celebrations of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav (India @ 75), the Consulate General of India in Birgunj organized a panel discussion on the topic \u201cRelevance of Constitution in Governance with special reference to Democracy\u201d at Clarks Resorts, Birgunj on November 26, 2021. The panel consisted of Ms. Monica Singh, Social Activist & lecturer; Shri Suresh Kumar, President, Sahu Vichar Manch, Raxaul; Ms. Laxmi Karn, Lecturer (Economics), Thakur Ram Multiple Campus, Birgunj; Shri. Rameshwar Sedhai, Advocate., High Court, Hetauda; Shri Binod Gupta, Principal, Birgunj College, Birgunj; , Shri Pannalal Gupta, Advocate, District Court, Birgunj; Professor Anil Kumar Sinha, Principal, SKGC, Sitamarhi, Bihar; Shri Jagdish Sharma, Chairman, Prateek Prakashan Samooh Pvt. Ltd and Shri Nitesh Kumar, Consul General of India. A select members of civil society of Birgunj and the officers and other members of the Consulate were in attendance during the discussion.
\nThe panelists highlighted characteristics of Constitution viz. Neutrality, Inclusiveness, Amendability, Progressiveness, Separation of Power, Duties of government and guaranteering of protection of the fundamental rights of the citizens, etc. The history of the constitution from Magna Carta of 1215 to the Constitution of Nepal of 2015 were reflected upon and it was agreed that the constitution was an important tool for success of democracy. The panelists viewed that the constitution of a strong democracy will have checks and balances among its three pillars- Legislature, Executive and Judiciary which will ensure that the democracy flourishes and become successful. Stressing upon the constitution of India, the panelists suggested that Nepal could also borrow some provisions from it viz. inclusiveness, progressiveness, respect to fundamental rights of the people and supremacy of judiciary, etc.<\/p>\n

Shri Nitesh Kumar, Consul General thanked the participants for their divergent and informative views on the topic. He stated that besides seeking protection of rights provided by the constitution, the citizens should also follow the duties and appreciate the reasonable restrictions enshrined in it.<\/p>\n

The program was conducted by Shri S. B. Kumar, Consul (ICS) while vote of thanks to the panelists was presented by Shri Shailendra Kumar, Consul (PCS).<\/p>\n
