CGI Birganj celebrated 153rd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi

Birgunj, October 03, 2022.As part of celebrations of Azadi ka Amrit Mahtosav (India @75) and to commemorate the 153rd Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Consulate General of India in Birgunj organized a series of programs in the Consulate on October 02, 2022. About 80 people from different sections of society including Businessmen/industrialists, Journalists, members of civil societies, intellectuals and teachers and students of different schools participated in the program.

The program started with singing of favorite Bhajan of Mahatma Gandhi “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram” by the invited school students. It was followed by short speeches on different topics related to Mahatma Gandhi by 11 students of various schools. A demo on using Charkha was also exhibited during the program by the members of Little Flower Leprosy center of Raxaul, East Champaran, Bihar. Gandhi caps were also distributed among the participants by the Consulate.

Shri Chandrakishore Jha,Senior Journalist and Columnist of Nepal was the distinguished guest speaker of the program. During his speech, Shri Jha highlighted the works and deeds of Mahatma Gandhi. He underlined the impact of Mahatma Gandhi in struggles for freedom in different parts of the world including in Nepal. He further added that the principles of “Satya, Ahimsa and Satyagraha” propounded by Mahatma Gandhi in 20th century were still relevant to the world.

In his remarks, Consul General Shri Nitesh Kumar highlighted the role of Mahatma Gandhi in Nation building. The path shown by Mahatma Gandhi is very relevant in today’s world impacted negatively by conflicts, wars and the pandemic. He further remembered the contribution of Shri Lal Bahadur Shashtri who shares birthday with Mahatma Gandhi. Shashtri ji was a man of simplicity, modesty and high moral values.
