मंदिर के संरक्षक ने बताया कि पिछले दो महीने में मंदिर पर किया गया यह तीसरा हमला है।

पुलिस अधिकारियों ने घटना की जांच के लिए मंदिर का दौरा किया। हिन्दू नेताओं ने इस तरह की घटनाओं को रोकने के लिए पुलिस से बेहतर सुरक्षा व्यवस्था करने के लिए कहा।

टेलीविजन चैनलों के फुटेज में मंदिर के फर्श पर जले कागज और बर्तन बिखरे दिखाई दिए।

Shilpa Shetty delivered a healthy baby boy at the break of dawn at a boutique hospital in Khar.

Says a source close to Shilpa, “The baby and mother are doing fine. Shilpa’s husband Raj Kundra was by Shilpa’s side from the beginning till the time she was admitted till her delivery at the break of dawn. It was only after he saw the baby that he finaly left home to go and rest. Raj and his family and Shilpa’s entire family, including mother Sunanda and sister Shamita, were present. Dr. Kiran Coelho delivered the baby at a healthcare hospital in Khar. Though Shilpa was due any day on Sunday she had gone for a normal check up but the doctors admitted her immediately as the contractions had begun.”

The source adds that Shilpa and Raj are ecstatic at the news. Raj says, “Baby boy! Hip hip hurray! Both mom and baby are fine!”

Shilpa and Raj have been married for three years and this is the couple’s first baby. On 4th May Shilpa’s sister Shamita had thrown a baby shower for her elder sister.

Two years ago, Dabangg ended with Rajo admitting to her cop-husband, Chulbul that she was pregnant. Will Part 2 turn her into Mummy Pandey? She laughs, “Now you’re fishing for details. You’ll have to wait to see the film to know that. Everyone seems eager to turn me into a mummy.”

Meanwhile, on June 1, she has Rowdy Rathore with Akshay Kumar coming up. The film has already been made in Telugu as Vikramarkudu (2006), in Kannada as Veera Madakari (2009) and in Tamil as Siruthai (2011). And Sonakshi’s certain that the Hindi remake, helmed by Prabhudheva, will also find an audience.

“Not everyone will have seen the South movies, and in Hindi, it’ll have a different flavour. Language is no bar for inspiration, but you can’t make the same movie again and again,” she argues.

“I’ve seen the Telugu version and enjoyed it thoroughly. But I can promise you that Rowdy Rathore is not Vikramarkudu.”

They were testing old drugs to see if any killed the dysentery bug.

Tests on animals, published in Nature Medicine, showed that auranofin was 10 times more effective than the best drug currently available.

Further studies will be needed in humans, but researchers say it holds great promise.

Amoebic dysentery is caused by Entamoeba histolytica, which infects the bowels. It results in severe diarrhoea including bloody stools. More than 70,000 people are thought to die from the disease each year – most are in developing countries.

US researchers tested 910 drugs, some of which had already been shown to be safe for human use, on amoebas in the laboratory.

It showed that auranofin was much better than the current treatment, metronidazole, at killing Entamoeba histolytica.

Follow-up experiments showed that it was also more effective at treating mice and hamsters which had been infected with the ameoba.

In use

It has been prescribed to patients with rheumatoid arthritis since 1985.

One of the researchers, Prof James McKerrow, from the Sandler Center for Drug Discovery at the University of California, San Francisco, said: “When we’re looking for new treatments for the developing world, we start with drugs that have already been approved.

“If we can find an approved drug that happens to kill these organisms, we’ve leapfrogged the development process that goes into assessing whether they are safe, which also makes them affordable throughout the world.”

Prof Sharon Reed, from the University of California, San Diego, said: “Because auranofin has already been approved for use in humans, we can save years of expensive development.

“This new use of an old drug represents a promising therapy for a major health threat.”

Dr Graham Clark, a reader in molecular parasitology at the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, said metronidazole was very effective, but it did have side effects and was not always successful.

He said: “The work presented in this paper is particularly useful as it identifies an existing drug, auranofin, that has already been tested and approved for use in humans, which seems to be at least as effective as metronidazole.

“Although auranofin has to date only been tested in animal models of amoebic disease, this means that there is now a potential alternative treatment for individual cases where metronidazole fails to cure the infection or in the event resistance to metronidazole emerge as a clinical problem in the future.”

The government talk panel includes Top Bahadur Rayamajhi, Mahendra Yadav, Surya Man Gurung and Radha Gyawali, while the Muslim talk team was headed by JMNSC Chairman Sardul Miya Haak.

The agreement includes from giving proportional representation to the Muslim community and form a Muslim commission, increase the compensation amount for those injured and killed, to bestow on the Muslims fundamental rights similar to the ones to Dalit in the upcoming constitution.

The talk panel of cabinet ministers also agreed to consider Muslim friendly names while determining the name of Terai-Madesh states. It also agreed to observe the birthday of Prophet Muhammad with a public holiday and support the Hajj and Madrasha.

The latest agreement is largely an improvised form of the six-point deal the two sides had reached on April, 2009, assuring a unique recognition for the Muslim community in the new constitution.

National Muslim Federation Chairman Taaj Mohammad Miya said they will take to the streets if the agreement is not implemented. “The six-point agreement has not been implemented. So there are still some doubts about the agreement will be addressed,” said Taaj Mohammad Miya.

The group has stated it will not stop the scheduled programme even while sitting in talks with the prime minister. Nefin chairman Rajkumar Lekhi said a dialogue is likely on Monday afternoon. “If everything goes well and a positive call comes from the prime minister, the ethnic groups are likely to sit for talks by Monday midday,” said Lekhi.

“I would like to make it clear that we are not stopping the ongoing programme at any cost. We will be engaged both in talks and demonstrations.”

The Janajati leaders said they were deceived earlier owing to their liberal move. They said they would not be fooled this time, nor would backtrack.

Meanwhile, following the refusal of the agitating ethnic groups to talk to anyone except the prime minister and leaders of top parties, the prime minister’s office is preparing for a dialogue. “The matter is being discussed but the date is yet to be fixed,” a PMO source said.

Despite the PMO’s affirmative gesture to the group’s call, the talks were not scheduled as of 10pm.

Peace and Reconstruction Minister Top Bahadur Rayamajhi on Saturday urged Nefin to call off their ongoing strike and to come to the negotiating table.

Meanwhile, at a press meet organised at the Reporters’ Club on Sunday, the agitating indigenous leaders said they would sit for talks only with a team comprised of the prime minister and leaders of top political parties.

Nefin General Secretary Aangkaji Sherpa, joint struggle committee secretariat coordinator Parshuram Tamang and other speakers refused a dialogue with other officials or political leaders.

Top leaders from three major political parties — UCPN (Maoist), Nepali Congress (NC) and CPN-UML — couldn´t convene a scheduled three-party meeting on Sunday let alone advance the statute drafting process ahead. Leaders from the major parties were scheduled to hold talks on Sunday morning and it was cancelled as UML leaders were absent. The meeting was then rescheduled for 5 pm, but the UML leaders didn´t attend the talks in the evening as well.

Leaders involved in the negotiations said UML leadership refrained from talks accusing the UCPN (Maoist) and the government leadership of duplicity – inciting the agitating ethnic groups to intensify protests on one hand and “staging a drama of talks” with other parties on the other.

UML Chairman Jhalanath Khanal and other leaders from the party didn´t turn up at the meeting despite Prime Minister Baburam Bhattarai, UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal and NC President Sushil Koirala´s pleas over the phone for Khanal to attend the talks.

Pradeep Gyawali, chief of UML´s publicity department, confirmed the party leaders stayed away from the talks saying that there was no point holding negotiations until the Maoist leaders give continuity to their duplicity.

Gyawali said Dahal made a volte-face from the three-party understanding on adopting 11-province state restructuring model and it was only few days back that Dahal suggested leaders of agitating ethnic and indigenous communities to take to the streets to counter those who were protesting the ethnicity-based federalism.

“There is a correlation between Dahal´s recent provocations of ethnic leaders and the unruly protests taking place today [Sunday],” Gyawali told Republica. “What is the point of holding inter-party negotiations if the Maoist leaders incite ethnic conflict?”

“Preparing ground for state of emergency”

UML Secretary Shankar Pokharel claimed the incidents during demonstrations on Sunday indicated the Maoist leaders and the government were preparing ground for state of emergency in the country.

He said there was a political penetration into the demonstrations with an intention to flare up the protests with the involvement of government leadership and the Maoists with a plan to impose state of emergency.

Pokharel also said that the Maoists were for provoking the agitating groups instead of properly addressing the aspirations of various social groups who aspire their rights be ensured in the new constitution.

“Who should we hold talks with when the government itself acts as an agitating party?” asked Pokharel.

Top UML leaders hold internal meeting

While evading inter-party negotiations, the UML standing committee members gathered at the official residence of Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokharel, who is also the party´s general secretary, at Pulchowk to chalk out the party´s future course.

Party chairman Jhalanath Khanal, former Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal, KP Sharma Oli and Bamdev Gautam, among other gathered at Pulchowk and were busy in intra-party discussions until late night.THIRA L BHUSAL republica

Issuing a statement, the NC central office in Kathmandu condemned the attack and drew attention of the MJF towards the incident.

According to the NC, the group led by the chairman of MJF, Dhanusha, Shesh Narayan Yadav vandalised the entrance of Nidhi’s house, burnt hay and tyres there and misbehaved with the occupants.

“Nepali Congress draws attention of Madhesi Janadhikar Forum to carry out its programmes peacefully, and present itself as a responsible political party,” the statement said.

The daily life across the nation was hit hard as the stream of strikes continues on Sunday as well.

Cadres of Nepal Federation of Indigenous Nationalities (NEFIN) and Indigenous Nationalities Joint Struggle Committee (INJSC) were on the streets since morning ceasing transportation in the valley and across nation. Transportation along with education institutions and industries has come to a complete halt.

The cadres claimed that the structure of the federal states should be on the basis of the proposals presented by State Restructuring Committee and High-level State Restructuring Commission. They also claimed that the states should be named on the basis of ethnicity.

According to NEFIN Chairman Raj Kumar Lekhi many cadres were injured during police interception at Babarmahal and Chabahil in the Capital.

Moreover, some cadres also clashed with the police at Nawalparasi.

Likewise, a clash arose at Prithvi Chowk of Pokhara between protestors and police personnel today. Three people were injured in the clash. Police also detained dozens of NEFIN and INJSC cadres from Prithvi Chowk.

Police had to resort to tear-gas to take the situation under control. Police has taken complete control of the place to avoid any further tension in the area.
